A couple of the reports from reviewers originally scared me about the reports of scratching which was exactly the problem I had with other dog foods. I gave it a try and my husky has never had a problem since and she has been on it for almost three months now. He jumped on it! It's unfortunate that Canidae didn't announce that they were going to change the formula because it's making a lot of dogs sick due to the sudden change in food. After blood work, ultrasound and many other tests trying to figure out why my dog wasn't eating, was throwing up on the rare occasion he did, had pockets of gas the size of base balls (he is a small dog) and had all the symptoms of kidney and liver failure, my vet determined it might be the food. I found that hard to believe, but we couldn't find anything else wrong. I believe that dog food should be what your dog likes to start with. Next, I think that you should do research to make sure it is right for your pooch! The bag never changed its appearance nor did they add any "stickers" to indicate a change in their formula. I feel this horrible company should have to pay for my vet bills as they did not inform us the consumers of their changes. I know, it's complicated, right" But my dogs really do better on a mostly raw diet like this.
It is a good product and after doing a ton of reading (I don't buy my animals cheap food or ANYTHING that I think comes from China) I think it does everything it claims. I have a 3 year old Boston Terrier who is not only a picky eater, but most dog foods give him bad gas.
When we were feeding a well know premium pet store brand we were there at least 1 time every six weeks. They love the taste of Newman's and it keeps their tummy in tip top shape. My other dog is 10 and is often mistaken for a puppy due to her good energy and coat. I am so glad we found this food!
Use the food cost calculator. Your dog eats less of this than many of the garbage filled brands. My dog loves it and she doesn't scratch at her ears anymore (she used to scratch her ears all the time because she kept an ear infection). Have two cocker spaniels.
I wanted meat grown here, veggies grown here, and no imports. My dogs are couch potatoes, but I feel better feeding them something good for them. Ingredients: My husband and I switched our three dogs to Canidae earlier this year based on the many glowing recommendations that I found on the Internet. Our dogs have done very well on it until recently (we always bought the 40 pound bags for our three LARGE dogs but now it's in the 35 pound bags) when they all became ill with diarrhea.
If I could give this product no stars I would. We have been giving this dog food to our dogs for years.
I have given my dogs every expensive dog food there is, Orijen, Blu, Merrick...you name it, and even though they were good this one is the best. No upset tummies during the switch to this dog food either.
