We Love The Usefulness - Stand Alone Air Conditioner Critique

By Ella Brown

We changed batteries in the unit again and it still would not work. I am very unhappy, I had high hopes this would help her tolerate the heat better. The downside is that the water had to be replaced every hour cause of the heat. Other than that, it served its purpose beautifully!

I like the analog speed control so you can adjust the level cooling you want. It works on batteries but I've only tried it once and it works just the same.

The other way, I found it pinching the sponge. This way, it is completely enclosed.

I was hoping that one day technology would be advanced enough for a portable air conditioner that can keep your surrounding air cool. I guess we still aren't there yet. We've tried the mini fans battery operated fans, the spray bottles with fans, ice packs and chairs with shade, some of them help but needless to say it is still hot. We love the Handy Cooler. The air smells nice and fresh especially after I put some fragrance on the filter that is stored inside. What I like about this fan is that the output nozzle is elevated and this means the paper on my desk doesn't fly around.

Outside in 100 degree heat, it doesn't make much of a dent if not right AT your face, but on a beach vacation, or at a sporting event it's perfect to hold and keep you much cooler. Just bring the little bottle for refills! This is a special one that is nice and small and runs off the USB, more like a computer fan rather than those conventional household fans. It's made for outdoor use as you can see it has a handle but I have yet to try it on batteries. I sent it back and ordered another. She received a filthy one that looked used so I had to return that one again for her. The air is moistened and cooler which is great for summer now. I've also added lavender scent on the filter but be warned to get some extra filters because the smell is impossible to wash off.

I live in the heat of Arizona so we are always in search of personal cooling products. Misty mate has always been amongst our top choices but the technology is old and I hate spraying my face with water all the time. The whirring noise level isn't bad but hardly discrete either. The $50 price is definitely too high for a product like this. The fan is quiet enough by running it at 70% power. I sometimes don't notice it's actually ON while watching TV. I initially purchased this item to use at my desk in my office. I thought the USB power option would be nice, and the idea of using evaporating water to cool the air made sense to me.
