Great Quality And Excellent Service - Touch Screen Digital Camera Critique

By Savannah Long

The 6020 is the perfect camera to carry during kayaking. I don't have to worry about ruining it if it gets wet.

The screen would work, show menus but the camera itself wouldn't show anything on the screen with the lens was open. It was very odd, we waited a few minutes and tried again and it worked fine.

Well, I've seen the results and they are fabulous! She was a little leery of taking that first underwater shot but has taken some fantastic pictures.

I used it as a field camera (I have a larger digital SLR, but when I'm out in the field, I don't like to carry it). I bought it because it was tough and waterproof--both very nice features for me.

I returned it as soon as I got back. While larger than compact point and shoots, this camera's tough features let you take pictures you might not otherwise get if you left your regular camera at home. And in my experience salt water leaves a film on the lens so always wash in clean fresh water after any underwater activity. The on-board software glitches when I tried to load it onto my computer, but I haven't really tried to fix it yet. There are three options for the push to shoot button. There is one photo per click.

Probably seven out of ten pictures are terrible. I consider myself pretty knowledgeable in picture taking and I have tried changing all the functions and nothing improves the quality. This camera takes decent pictures during the day when there is plenty of light available. I would say the picture quality is decent, but isn't the best. I am currently shopping to replace that camera for upcoming cruise and would not take a chance on the same brand. This little camera was bought as a replacement to our old waterproof camera that we left at the top of a mountain (Olympus Stylus 850 SW). At close out last year prices an adequate choice. As a point and shoot for normal conditions, look elsewhere.

I guess it's just a sacrifice for a more durable screen. This is what I wanted for backpacking, hunting and fishing when you can't always count on the weather here in MT. I could have not asked for a better camera for my wife. She dropped it twice the first day. So far I have used this camera to shoot pictures at monster truck rallies, a welcome home ceremony when a dear friend came back from Afghanistan ( got a great video of his family running to hug him), Washington, DC when we visited the museums, and the pool. I am very happy with my camera.

I was very happy with my old camera, so decided to replace it with the current mode. The Olympus 6020 seemed to fit the bill and came with a few new features.
