Used the Toshiba for a 6 week trip around the US and Canada. The size makes it ultra-portable and the screens still big enough to get what you need done.
Inserting the new memory module was a breeze (directions in user guide online at Toshiba) and download of Windows anytime upgrade from Amazon was a snap. Just go to programs and look for Windows Anytime Upgrade - follow directions and its done!
After reading most of the reviews on Amazon I made the decision to buy this machine. I have ordered a portable CD/DVD and a portable hard drive for it as well, of course from Amazon. I had no problems setting it up (although I deleted several unwanted programs that were pre-installed - Norton for example, went with a better security package) which, including configuration took less than 30 minutes. I did install 2g memory right off the bat. However, the Atom processor in this unit is on its way out, and for about $100 more you can get a netbook that is considerably faster. Nevertheless, or a solid, cheap, ultraportable computer, this is a good pick.
I don't leave home without it! I wanted something to carry while I was touring on the Motorcycle. I decided on the Toshiba. I added the Logitech Couch Mouse M515 for PC or Mac.
It's a great little netbook at an affordable price. Specs are pretty standard for a 2010/2011 netbook: 1G RAM, 250Gb HD, 3 USB ports, basic video camera, separate Mic & headphone jacks, SD card slot, VGA output and a very useful 8h battery life. I absolutely LOVE the increase in speed and productivity! My particular model uses DDR3 but be aware that some do use DDR2! It takes over a minute to come out of suspend. Having suspended and hibernated many times, I can say that at least the functions work reliably.
Toshiba refunded the cost, but did not suggest a solution so I tried Crucial. I sent the same information to Crucial (the numbers off the current 1GB module) and they suggested their 2GB DDR3 module.
I taxed it for about 2 hours on battery eco mode watching YouTube and surfing nonstop and it still says it has about 4 hours left on the meter. Maybe not quite the 8 hours claimed but pretty good. I have already ordered the 2 gig memory stick from Crucial and will take care of that as soon as possible. Wanted to try the 1 gig first and while it is quite fast for a small netbook with 1.66 GHz processor, 2 gigs of memory will make a big difference. I have been very happy with my purchase of the Netbook. The Netbook is performing very well I have installed Microsoft Office 2007; I plan to upgrade the memory to 2GB. Plenty of space on the hard drive, though I use an external HD when I travel. I would highly recommend this netbook for its portability, full-size keyboard, and the Toshiba reliability.
