Essential Details About Wenger Knives

By Fausto Capello

In a lot of instances, the Wenger Swiss Army knife is almost similar to that of Victorinox. Wenger and Victorinox are said to be innovators of making pocket knives primarily to the army and later on for mass consumption. These two companies are the leading competing companies on making and distributing Swiss Army knives.

The Wenger brand takes it roots in Swiss canton of Jura, Switzerland. It was originally called Paul Boechat & Company, named after its founder in 1893, and was the major supplies of cutting tools to the Swiss Army. Later on, Theodore Wenger entered the company as manager and eventually got to own it and changed its name to Wenger and David.

Wenger manufactured pocket cutting tools and utensils. In 1908, the Swiss Army signed in Victorinox as one of their providers of pocket knives cutting Wenger's share into half.

Swiss Army employed a second company to heighten competition, since it will lead them to cut down their prices as well as improving their product's quality. Additionally, Swiss Army really did that to hasten camaraderie among the two companies.

Wenger's tag line is "Genuine Swiss Army knife" whereas Victorinox calls its product "Original Swiss Army knife" which if we look at it really means the same. This was agreed upon by the two companies that there should not be a harsh competition between the two since both of them anyway were contracted by the Swiss Army.

Two years later, to follow up with their headway, Wenger made EvoGrip. These are Wenger Swiss Army knives that had rubber inserts. Rubber inserts provided users a better hold. Users are guaranteed that the Swiss Army knife will not slip in their fingers.

In 2007, following the Evolution's success, Wenger introduced EvoGrip, a new line of pocket knives with rubber handles which provided better grip and lessening the possibility for the knives to slip off the user's hand.

Another defining feature of Wenger Swiss Army knives when compared to Victorinox except for its rubber handles is its logo. Wenger's logo is a cross inside a square.

Wenger has been around for a century now manufacturing top quality pocket knives. After Victorinox's purchase of the said company, Wenger admirers need not doubt since Victorinox has no plans of changing Wenger's long established ways and designs.
