It is lightweight and easy to just throw into a purse or a book bag, which is extremely convenient to me as a student. The battery life is amazing, too, which is extremely helpful if I'm in a classroom where I don't have easy access to an outlet. I loaded up Kindle software on here and had that, MS Office (Word and Excel) and Chrome running at the same time, switching between all three with no problems. This was all with 1GB of memory.
I don't leave home without it! I wanted something to carry while I was touring on the Motorcycle. I recommend that you wait before upgrading memory because mine is a DDR3 (the specs say DDR2, although the description says DDR3). I would have been unpleasantly surprised had I ordered the 2G memory upgrade at the same time I purchased this.
I might also put a 7200 RPM hard drive (one of the Western Digital Blacks) in it one of these days. This is a really nice Toshiba netbook, and I am pleased that I purchased it this week at Amazon.
Having said that, so far I am pleased with the netbook. I primarily use a 13" MacBook Pro and I purchased this netbook because I needed a computer to run Windows, and I didn't want to install Windows on my Mac.
I also love that even though this laptop is small, the keyboard is full size. Overall, it is a great on-the-go laptop, especially for a college student. Plenty of other reviews here have said so, so I'll refrain from redundancy. The purpose of my review is to alert those of you planning to immediately upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB. I am able to get about 5-6 hours of battery life, which works for me. As for the speed, it seems good (I mostly use it for browsing and emails).
There is a wonderful free little program available on the Internet called "Batch Image Resizer" and any full sized pictures I wanted to email, I just ran though that and all was fine. The full sized originals remained on the notebook with back up to a flash drive. The keyboard is just a shrunken version of my old laptop so it works great. As far as performance, I am upgrading from that ten year old laptop with only 512 Mb ram so I am cooking right now. I like the key board, slightly raised. It allows you to type faster. Let me start off by saying that this was my first ever laptop of any kind. Plenty of space on the hard drive, though I use an external HD when I travel. I would highly recommend this netbook for its portability, full-size keyboard, and the Toshiba reliability.
I would do it over and over again if given the opportunity. Also, my mother didn't like the idea of the mini laptop because she said I would find it difficult to type and work with, but she was wrong.
