So while I would love for the traction to be better, the comfort on my knees is completely worth the money. Well-reviewed, used by my teachers and more experienced fellow students, well-cushioned, generously sized, but sadly, I have returned it. This mat protects your toes and spine and knees and hands from the hardness of the floor underneath it. Plus, it will stay in place.
There's also an 85 inch version for you giants out there! It's also wider (26 inches) than most yoga mats.
Manduka, you once had a nice mat (my instructors old one is fabulous) but that mat I bought in 10/2009 IS HORRIBLE! I'm sick of hearing "You have to wait for it to break in" - screw that, it should be ready to go for $98!
My yogi toes works well but does not cover from side to side or top to bottom. Not a concern for me at all.
I may actually buy another one as it doesn't cover enough area for a full workout but I knew that when I bought it. Being a hard core yoga student, (I practice for an hour every day) I've had a number of yoga mats over the years but never one as good as this.
If you want the best, this is it. It's highly recommended.
It is on the heavy side if you are wishing to take it somewhere. I have been experiencing LOTS of slipping on my mat....to the point where I was ready to exchange my mat. Surely I have spent well over $100 and have not had any return on that investment. The Manduka is different, I believe the claims that it too will last for years. If you can't get rid of the film, spray it with Simple Green and let it bake in the sun. Once you try this mat, you will never want to practice on a cheap yoga mat again.
Once you get it you'll know what I'm talking about. It's thick unlike every other mat out there. I also love that it is so thick and dense. It doesn't "follow" me when I jump through, provides plenty of padding for my knees/arms, and is very stable for balancing poses.
The smell that it gives out has been proven harmful to health! PVC "off-gassing" can last for a year or longer, before the product stops emitting the toxic fume. I am looking forward to years of yoga. This size is the best, less weight, thick enough for the POWER 90 and P90X training. After hoisting this beast out from its container, I was eager to pop in the YogaX DVD from the P90X series. I'll comment on a few of the Manduka's best features: First things first, before attempting to hold Downward Dog, beware this mat arrives with a slick coating on its surface.
