I was unsure of how it worked before I bought this, until I played around with it, I realize it's basically a turbine fan that filters air through a wet filter and for some reason the air comes out is cold. It doesn't cool more than 30 degrees but that is enough for me.

I've used it lining in banks, waiting for buses, on train etc. And it has now become a necessity since the last 2 weeks when the temp hit the mid 90s.

I bought this back in March and never had a chance to use it. Now the temperature has got high enough to take this beauty to the test, and it has proven itself very worthy. The handy cooler comes in three colors, and I decided to get the black one. It doesn't weight too much which was my biggest issue. I wet the filter carefully before I turn the receiver on. I let the filter dry out and let it blow air without the cooling function. The effectiveness fall short of the swamp coolers I usually see in my town but it does well enough for its size. The base is sturdy so it doesn't have a problem standing up by itself.

The bottom line is that Dr Ravitch does not provide a course of action for struggling school districts to follow. She not only doesn't have a single "magic bullet" or "panacea" of the kind she derides the existing reforms for trying to be, she doesn't offer a complex, multi-component program for improvement either. I have just finished reading this remarkable scholarly, vitally important, thorough examination and critique of what's happening in education today and it is not a pretty picture. I applaud Diane Ravitch's outspoken courage not only because she is a rare voice of dissent and delineates all the inherent problems in education including the failed 2002 NCLB Law as well as proposed new reforms, but also because she repudiates some of her earlier beliefs. Listen to this wise woman. Do not listen to her defamers, who give her such silly and untrue motives for admitting she was wrong and taking a stand.

My thoughts were confirmed by a members of my book group who were new to the topic or engaged in schooling in an area that isn't in the thick of the arguments (pre-school and after school programs). These solutions are either founded on faulty data, skewed by corporate influence, or impractical (if not impossible) to take to scale. This book has the right criticisms and the right solutions, and just might pull us out. She notes that the Obama administration is linking increases in federal funding to mandated adoption by other districts of the same programs that have already failed Mr Duncan and the children of Chicago. Teacher-bashing, so in vogue among the "reformers" dominating the national discussion, is rejected by Dr Ravitch.

Works Well, It's Outstanding - Phone Mount Car Critique

Three stars may be unfair; I'm comparing it to the old droid mount, not to other squeeze mounts. The device is very sturdy and is made of solid heavy-duty plastic. In my installation, I used the included 3M adhesive plate to mount the holder on the dash beside my cd receiver and slightly above and to the left of the gear shift, making it easy to see at a glance and to operate while keeping my right hand close to the steering wheel. I tried every possible orientation of the phone, and none would allow access to all phone ports and power button. That said, the modification was not a big deal, and the holder works fine. It was easy to put it in and take it out of the holder. A couple times the mount slid apart in the sideways position, but this may be due to user error in not fully and securely sliding the two pieces together.

I have only used the vent mount. It works better than expected. I bought this "Universal" mount so that it could be used with both mine and my wife's smartphones. The reviews here on Amazon make this sound like a great product, and after using it for over a month now, it is! Very easy to assemble and the parts fit very well. The grip is snug and the phone sits securely in it.

The clips that go onto the vents aren't hooked in the ends, so they don't actually grip the vent. The mount can easily be pulled off without releasing the clips.

I read a review on here before I bought that the suction cup doesn't stay at all. Whoever wrote that review is straight up inept. You will not be disappointed. I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 and this product works perfectly.

Okay, so if you don't know how to use this product properly, you probably shouldn't have bought it (I'm talking about the other reviews). The package comes with the windshield mount (suction cup), a vent mount (clips), and a dash mount (sticky pad).

Unfortunately the vent mount fits very loosely and moves back and forth when taking a turn. I'm unable to install it onto the vents closest to the driver because it interferes with the wiper control and the headlight/blinker control. Very well made, sturdy on both the vent and on the suction cup, although, I never really like to trust suction cups with something like this...always afraid it will suddenly drop and break it. I use the vent clip holder and it positions very nicely with the support bracket they have included.

Will be ordering another for my daughter next summer and hopefully the price would have gone down a bit by then. This fan was purchased as a gift for my girlfriend and she bought it to work with her all the time.

The highest speed blows a perfect amount of air on the hottest days and it gives out a low, droning buzz. In fact, the buzz on my laptop is even louder than this fan so it is never considered a distraction when I am working. I live in the Mojave Desert and as such carry something to keep me cool, and this is perfect. The company was quick to address any questions I had and as such I have bragged and shared this little gem with all my friends, and in turn 4 of my friends have purchased one for themselves! However, the product really didn't live up to the hype in previous reviews. It seemed to draw inconsistent power from the USB port of my brand new MacBook Pro, and would sometimes slow down or stutter, creating a distraction. The fan does its job, but like in the insert it is labeled, in humid weather it will not cool you down. The little breeze effect may help you to cool down. If I want to be in the same room as my husband and children (which I do) then when I am not in my office, I can use the Handy Cooler rather than the Kuul Aire, and use the Handy Cooler just on me. The hubby and kids can be comfortable, and I can be comfortable.

This is a quality product. So I bought this because I had read so many good things about it on the other reviews. In the winter it is freezing and we are stocking up on individual heaters and in the winter it is like we are all competing for the best cooling device. I would say that my handy cooler has been the best cooling device out of everybody's.

So we decided to run only one at a time and swap out batteries for a total of 10 hours run time on high. The sponge is a hassle to remove out of the mesh bag and wet it and then put back while constantly moving with our pack.

From now on, I will hesitate on believing Amazon reviews because either the company is making fake reviews or they simply only post positive reviews. To elaborate: You have two options when using this fan; you can plug it in to a USB port on your pc or use batteries. Only annoying thing is that since I bought it the price has been reduced $10, Very satisfied with this purchase. It works really well in the dry summer heat. I highly recommend it. The only downside was that when I put it in my backpack with the sponge wet, the water leaked.

The heavy emphasis on testing as inspired by NCLB is also taken to task. By placing so much emphasis on reading and mathematics, students are left with gaping holes in their education when it comes to subjects such as science and social studies. We need parents need to work WITH as opposed to AGAINST teachers in the schools. These are the things that will improve education. Tax cutting is also involved here; steady pressure to reduce taxes, and to cut education spending as the first line of doing so, is obvious, but less obvious is the degree to which it lies behind the reforms. Most of them are about saving money, not about helping kids. For the first time, I understand how we got into the current perilous situation and what must done to reestablish the public schools as the foundation of our democratic system. As promised, I am replacing my brief summary with my full review now that it has been published in a major metropolitan newspaper. This book should long outlast the reforms criticized in its pages. Its prose and principles stand strong against the times.

Battery life seems pretty good so far.

I bought this netbook as a work computer to program simulations and do basic research. I had to dual boot Ubuntu with windows because windows starter is a joke and give little to no functionality and slows down noticeably when more than one tab or window at a time. I also love that even though this laptop is small, the keyboard is full size. Overall, it is a great on-the-go laptop, especially for a college student.

Boot-up time is also reduced with 2GB. It's also great to just use email to transfer documents even when using a mac for certain things. This works great as a secondary computer; in fact, I was slightly surprised at how well my netbook works.

Furthermore I like the size of the keys, which are the largest of any netbook I've found, although the PC netbooks look like they have similar key size. The initial boot-up took about 10 minutes, during which I plugged in the power cord.

I also like placement of the SD card slot below the mouse pad, as well as the one-finger up/down scrolling feature. The closest competition to the NB505-N508BL would be the Asus PC netbooks which are about $25 less, but come with a 3-cell battery whereas the Toshiba comes with a 6-cell.
