Fantastic Value - Family Beliefs Book Critique

By Jayden Brooks

That standard premise of what Palin stands for is basically the standard rhetoric from the right you hear on talk radio and fox news which all comes from the same right wing think tanks. They all say the same stuff.

The tears in her eyes during speeches and prayers are very real. She doesn't just dwell on "theory" she actually LIVES life and her life experiences reinforce her views...and by life, I don't mean the same lives of materialism, superficiality, boredom, and conformity most modern Americans tend to lead.

For those that agree with her, I imagine that reading it was fun and affirming, but it didn't do anything to help a dialog between left and right, nor did it raise the level of discourse. We don't need another cheerleader book meant to rally those already on "our" side. There is an anti-partisan rebellion building in the U.S. I doubt there will be little tolerance for hyper-partisan candidates in the next election, so why she has chosen this path is a mystery to me. Instead it read to me like a pamphlet distributed at a college campus political rally, not anything substantive that would electrify conservatives or give birth to a movement, much less have any meaning on a world stage. While it is worth a read to get an updated view of Palin, I think it is a missed opportunity for her to be substantive and reach a bigger, more thoughtful mass of the electorate. They would love to have your gifts, skills, talent, experience and star power. Things are what they are.

May God Bless the Palin Family for supporting her. Our Nation is in great need and she is our bright shining star.

In addition, there are many areas that don't ring true to her voice; Googling certain passages has revealed that she or her ghostwriter have lifted sentences or passages with minimal editing without giving credit to the original author. I want my politicians to be honest, to be able to express their ideas in their own words, and to give credit where credit is due. Either way this book is purely money in her pocket and not at all worth the time I wasted/lost reading it, and complete waste of trees. I confess I only read the first chapter in the "Read it now" function on Amazon.

The last half of the book is more interesting. The pictures are nicely presented. Americans cannot forget that. Between her two books, Ms Palin has received more education, especially from writings and quotes by Americans past and present.

They won't understand the fact that true, deeply rooted, heartfelt, spiritual convictions can serve as the bedrock for someone's beliefs and worldview rather than a bunch of shallow, academic points of practical data and modern philosophical texts. She doesn't just "know" her beliefs. Again, if you say so it must be true and it certainly makes people feel better. Do you mean like when Reagan drastically increased tariffs and duties and protected the American auto and steel industries from being defeated in a free market? Although his plans were not adopted in totality, they did form the basic outline for American development. She is respectful about those that oppose her views, but adamant about fighting for the values and policies that she believes in. There is no co-author, so one has to assume that she is the author.
