The filters require cleaning but it's easy if you follow the instructions. The only problem is that it doesn't cool very well when it's humid.
This is my first review on an item just because I don't want anyone to be ripped off like I did. I think the cheap mist fan is comparable to this and it even works better for a price less than 40 bucks. Oh well live and learn. The handy cooler comes in three colors, and I decided to get the black one. It doesn't weight too much which was my biggest issue. I was pleasantly surprised that it does still cool the air noticeably even with RH around 70-85%, and the USB cable means that I can keep it running non-stop while I'm working on the PC. I'm very happy with the purchase overall.
Then, you must be certain to dry the sponge completely prior to storage to prevent mildew/mold. If those issues don't bother you, this fan is PERFECT! I can see some people criticizing this product for being too expensive, but I think that this is something for you if you do not mind spending a premium for something that looks good and works well, and built of better quality. It helped me a lot through those hot days at the office this summer.
I just hope it has a nice long life so it'll last me the summer! I suffer from Hot Flashes induced by Cancer medications and HRT withdrawals; I found this product to be exactly what I need.
It took a while before I got the product in a working condition from the company. The first two they sent me were defective. The product feels very sturdy and it looks like it can handle some wear and tear although I normally just use it indoors. I use it at my desk when I'm on the comp, and on hot evenings, I place it on my bed stand so that it faces me. Love it being so lightweight and small; I can easily bring it to and from work every day. Delivery was fast. I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that it is safe to add some aromatherapy essential oil to the sponge that is used inside the Handy Cooler. And, if I ever go to an outdoor event in the Austin heat, this thing is coming with me: it is WAY better than a typical "mister."
I bought this for my son who works in an auto factory. He says the temperatures there easily reach over 90 degrees.
It's highly recommended if you want a good quality product. I work on the bed and the swamp cooler in my room cannot reach to where I usually lie flat. If you follow the instructions to a T, it's still going to leak. Not only that, but the air it puts out is equivalent to that of the nostrils of a sleeping person breathing lightly on you from the adjacent pillow. While I was skeptical due to previous disappointments in portable fans, this one lives up to its promises! The only inconvenience is the need for water which is solved somewhat by the included water bottle.

This product is way overpriced and should be at most a $25 item and not $50. Oscillating Sander.
