We've had this for nearly 1.5 years already and it is almost constantly on when I work on the computer during the summer. Other than needing to buy some new filters last week, this is still working like new. Set it upright on your desk. The fan may run a little slower, since it's now being forced to draw air through the entire sponge, but the net effect of this is two-fold: * When the sponge dries out, it's actually closer to 100% dry.
It really cools best with the water in it so this is the drawback to that. Also, the plug isn't safe for outdoors so you'd want to use it inside a covered area with the batteries only which would wear it down kind of quickly electrically...but when it comes to saving lives of anything little in this heat, I'm pulling out all the stops. Love it being so lightweight and small; I can easily bring it to and from work every day. Delivery was fast. So I'd have to put this thing really close to my face to feel the air. I wished fan speed was more powerful.
If I want to be in the same room as my husband and children (which I do) then when I am not in my office, I can use the Handy Cooler rather than the Kuul Aire, and use the Handy Cooler just on me. The hubby and kids can be comfortable, and I can be comfortable. There are smaller portable fans out there but they don't really cool the air. This portable fan is great when I am at the gym. The fan does its job, but like in the insert it is labeled, in humid weather it will not cool you down. The little breeze effect may help you to cool down. It has minimal cooling, not as quiet as one would expect. I got a $12 fan from the drug store that works just as well.
The air also smells somewhat foul (sponge?). The fan is now a useless paperweight.
After all, there is no point of lathering gallons of hydrating lotion but sleep under a draft. The filters stay wet for only a few hours so make sure that you check often the wetness otherwise it is not going to work as well.
I've also tried small fans but they just don't do. This is such a wonderful surprise. I researched at least 10 different portable fans and cooling devices but decided to get this one after reading the reviews and liking the aesthetics of it. It is a very good product. I gave this fan as a gift and she said it worked pretty well for a day. It kept her cool and she liked it a lot, but then it stopped working.
Now, they will only run on high for maybe 15 minutes (if you're lucky) before quickly winding down and then stopping all-together. That is with *brand new batteries*.

Ultimately I simply settled for medium. The quietest air conditioner is created in China. Quietest Air Conditioner. You can disregard the sensor since it does not affect the basic operation from the fan. Assembly was simple. Quietest Air Conditioner.
