If you are considering purchasing the memory upgrade for the Toshiba netbook memory upgrade required. Put in the model number on the back of the computer Information supplied by Amazon is useless. Other brands, like Asus, use a less buggy BIOS. The short answer is "a new one." Otherwise, it is an excellent buy for the money. I had it now for 5 days and very happy with my decision to get one!
Keyboard is sufficient, with quiet keys. Also you'll need it to run, assuming u upgrade to Home Edition 7, instead of standard STARTER Version 7, so there's another $80.
My 17" notebook was in the shop for all sorts of malfunctions, and I happened to see and read reviews of this mini notebook on Amazon. For its size, you get a lot of bang for your buck. I have the orange one and it looks good. The Toshiba branding on the cover is a little too bold.
I have been installing Amazon's Kindle for the PC on my Linux netbooks, including this one. There are two issues with Debian.
Remember to never stop learning new things. This product is excellent, battery is very long durations, and the other preference for this mini laptop is incredible, price is good, thanks. A little slow but that's what I expected. There is nothing that impedes my usage. There is some, but almost all for arguably useful programs. The included Toshiba software seems well-designed even though I personally have no use for it. One thing I noticed is that it is indeed sluggish. Netflix didn't play without hiccups; hopefully the RAM fixes that. The DDR3 has its notch about an inch from the end of the module. The DDR2 has its notch about a half inch from the end of the module.
The system is fast (with the exception of suspend and hibernate) and stable. Since my particular color was deeply discounted, I consider it money well spent.
This is just what I was looking for: a compact portable netbook that performs in most respects like a larger, more expensive laptop. My only complaint thus far is the highly reflective screen which makes it difficult to use under some bright light conditions; perhaps I can find some sort of film that will alleviate this problem.
This NB 505 does not produce heat!

About the Author:
It is small, lightweight and I have yet to re-charge it in the last 2 days of using it (it runs on "balanced" mode so far and goes to sleep on its own but can be set to an "eco mode" which will make it last even longer on a charge). Garden Paving Designs.
