The extra weight of the batteries are not great for hiking but the comfort at night pays off the hard work. I keep it running on mid power and it runs for a good 8 hours. So for the fourth time I ordered the fan and I hope it lasts for her. She really likes it and I guess she is stuck with the ac adapter I purchased for it if it stops.
Both units work great and make a big difference. Other fan/sprays are cheaper, but we tried them in the past and they do not work well. When I saw that the shipping was an additional $12 for two lightweight slices of sponge, I wrote a "nasty gram" to the manufacturer. They wrote back.
I'd rather have a pink one but my boyfriend got me a blue. Anyway, I glad him bought me this, probably the only gift he gave me that I really use. Obviously it is not as strong as air conditioning, but it is saving me a lot in bills. Not only that, but I am no longer having the problem where I am hot and sweaty before I sleep so I turn on the air conditioning to 12 degrees before I sleep and wake up with my teeth chattering and a sniffly nose...no, the handy cooler provides the perfect amount of cooling off that doesn't overdo it like air conditioning does.
After about three months it stopped working apparently the connection to the motor wasn't very good. I called the USA office and asked for a replacement and in just a couple days I had one shipped out and I only had to pay for shipping. It's just really a swamp cooling that is made into a handheld unit. Works well when it's dry and hot enough, from common sense, this thing shouldn't work well in humid areas. I have to put my face right on it to feel a little bit of cool air. Afterword I placed the filter inside the fridge to see if that helped but I didn't see much of an improvement. For me, it is exactly what I was looking for. It's a quiet fan that lowers the temperature by a couple degrees and moves air around.
Within 2 minutes, it felt as if the air was being cooled by at least 20 degrees. Of course the further away you are from the vent, the less cool the air gets.
It would have been better if the air was strong so that both my girlfriend and I can share the cooling. It's simple but works! The unit has a sponge-material filter (which you need to wet) and after turning it on, it pulls air through the filter, cooling the air down before blowing it at you. It's a really cool concept.
Bought this for use at home and it does a lovely job of keeping me comfortable. The design is simple and it works well.
