Air Cooler - Portable Air Conditioner Review Review

By Zoe Gonzalez

The way it works is very similar to those misting fans you see at some of the patio restaurants but this is a portable one and doesn't spray water in the air. Of course, my expectations could have been pretty low, but it's been good. When it's on, it's powerful enough to cool you down and it's a pretty quiet for the amount of air it moves around. Cooling - I wouldn't say 30 degrees, more like mid 10s.

The handy cooler is much better because it's automatic (no more pumping the water bottle) and the cooling effect is great. It's not the best when it comes to sharing it, but it really does work having it right next to your neck.

Stumbled across this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. It is terrific! Otherwise there is no real breeze. At the highest setting it is also very loud with a high pitch whine. The best thing yet he says! I bought this for my upcoming trip to Mexico.

I was recommended by a friend and it really is a very special fan, if it can even be considered a fan! By in large, it's a swamp cooler made into a hand held casing and uses a spongy filter as the reservoir (it can't have a water tank since it will spill if you take it around).

I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. This is one of those rare products that looks cool in the ads and then when you get it is even better than you expected. It's a wonderful product. When I first used it I was very surprised on how cool the air was. I have to say that standard misting fans are great if you're out at the beach or something, but if you don't want to get wet it can't be used. The way the handy cooler is designed gives you the same effect but without the wetness hitting you. I found the product to be rather bulky as well. Even though aesthetically stylish, I would feel self-conscious using this thing out in public as it is rather unusual. I have to put my face right on it to feel a little bit of cool air. Afterword I placed the filter inside the fridge to see if that helped but I didn't see much of an improvement. The guys who've seen it all want one, but nobody is going to steal something in pink. Honestly, I wish it were less expensive, but the build quality is solid enough that I think it'll survive until I get back, and that's really all that counts. It cools the air by around 15 degrees and that's pretty good for a $40 product. The only issue I have with this unit is that the water drips if you are not following the instructions properly, that is to fill up the bottle and pour from there, and I personally find it too inconvenient.
