I do outdoor camping a lot and it gets too hot in the summer at times. This has helped keep my tent cool but I would prefer it to ventilate fresh air from outside, and this doesn't do this very well.
You can carry it around with you but when you wish to do things like cook in the kitchen or work on the computer, you can set it on a table in front of you and it will cool not only yourself but the air around you without the device falling all over the place. When the weather becomes REALLY hot (I am talking about 90+ degrees) I agree that this product will get replaced by the air-con that can cool the rest of the family and the house as well, however this product is fantastic as a self-cooler.
It worked great! I also brought a 15 minute battery charger so I could recharge my batteries quickly and use the cooler all of the time.
Both units work great and make a big difference. Other fan/sprays are cheaper, but we tried them in the past and they do not work well. I got this for its portability so I use it anywhere, and I find it very functional and helpful. I can lay it flat on my bed and have the filter face up (so the air intake is unobstructed) and it'll be plugged into my computer's USB port. At least add in an AC adapter and an extra sponge or two if you're going to charge that high a price. A $25 price point would've been more reasonable.
I use this device on my desk in a cubicle surrounded by 10 other people. This thing is so loud that you can hear it 30 feet away. We knew we were in trouble bringing an infant to Disney World and Miami Beach. We knew we had to keep her cool in the Florida heat or our vacation was over.
Like so many products today, it is made to look nice but not to last. Don't waste your money. Under this condition, the cooling worked well. When you're using this outside walking in the hot sun, it's easy for the wind to blow the fan's output away. My only complaint is that to order additional sponges for the cooler a package of two that is offered is $9.95 and the shipping is as expensive - doubling the price of the replacements. I bought this product in October for a Christmas present. I live in inland west coast where the humidity ranges between 40-70% in summer at approximately 90-100 degrees, and this unit managed to impress me with a good 15F temperature difference. There's a little table in the instructions manual and the figures are close enough in real life.
The only thing I could ask for is a longer USB cable. Summer has been on the cooler side so far but the hottest month is still to come so I expect to give the fan a real workout. It gives cool air within about a foot but not much further out. I was disappointed but still use it in the right circumstances. I have used it both indoors and out. The batteries seem to last, but I have now ordered the AC adapter to use whenever possible.

The system will not cool beneath 70F from what I can tell. I was extremely impressed. WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER INSTALLATION. I got myself the fan for a vacation home in the mountains. My guidance is avoid Holmes like the plague. what size air conditioner do i need.
